HoopAppeal goes Hollywood

Coming soon! – 2011

In June of 2010 the HoopAppeal Team was approached to provide our services in the production of a feature film, “Take This Waltz”, with Michelle Williams, Seth Rogen, Sarah Silverman, and directed by Sarah Polley.

We were thrilled with prospect and on August 10th we participated in a full day of training, coaching and filming. We had a blast! The cast and production teams were supportive and amazing to work with. We provided training services to key cast members and extras, instructor training to the actor who were playing the part of the instructor in the film. We worked with one of the lead actors (Michelle Williams), to provide one on-one training and coaching.

We provided hoops for the cast and the extras as well as participating in several scenes. It was an exhausting and highly uplifting experience. We enjoyed every minute of it! More details on this exciting day will be provided in our newsletters and on our blog, closer to the release of the film, 2011. Watch for special events when the film premiers!

Do you have an event in mind where you could use our assistance? We provide consulting, coaching and training services along with hoop rentals. Our professional instructors can have you hooping like pros in a very short time. Contact us at events@hoopappeal.com

Hula hoops are making the rounds again, and this time they aren’t just for play!

Hula hoops are replacing yoga mats as the hippest new fitness accessory. Cyclists have been spotted with colourful hoops looped over their shoulders, and more metro riders are carrying them, too. If you’ve been to Lafontaine Park in the evening this summer, chances are you’ve seen the colourful hoops in action, flying around the hips of participants in outdoor fitness classes.

These are not the Wham-O hula hoops that sold by the millions during the hoop craze of the 1950s. Today’s fitness hoops are heavier; they require a little more effort to swing, but are far easier to keep in motion. “It’s gone from no one’s ever heard of it to everyone knowing someone who hoops,” said Amy Goldstein, the Los Angeles-based director of The Hooping Life, a documentary that will be screened at the Montreal World Film Festival. Goldstein began interviewing hoopers in 2002, after she noticed what she describes as a “hooping subculture.”
